Lithium heparin tubes are green-capped, sterile, vacuum-sealed blood collection tubes
containing lithium heparin, a spray-dried anticoagulant.

Key Features and Details:

* Additive: Lithium heparin (inhibits thrombin and thromboplastin).
* Cap Color: Green (can be light or dark green, depending on the manufacturer).
* Usage: Used for plasma, not serum, in clinical chemistry and emergency, tests.
* Gel Separation: Many, but not all, lithium heparin tubes are Plasma Separating Tubes (PST)
that include a gel that separates plasma from cells during centrifugation.
* Sample Type: Plasma (liquid, non-clotted portion).
* Advantages: Ideal for electrolytes, as it does not cause false elevations in sodium levels (unlike sodium heparin).
